In the Basque Country, the ratio of researchers to the employed population is slightly under 1% (0.94 in 2008), which is lower than the leading research and innovation countries. Finland exceeds 2% and the EU-15 are at 1.15%.
R+D+i professional numbers have maintained sustained growth, reaching 15,373 people in 2008, 69% more than in 2000.
